MedMira Receives Grant from John Hopkins for its Multiplex STD Saliva Test

Halifax, Nova Scotia, 26 July, 2022 – Today, MedMira Inc. (MedMira) (TSXV: MIR) received the confirmation letter from the John Hopkins School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases stating that MedMira’s proposal titled “RVF Technology Multiplex saliva test for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)” was selected by the panel of experts and awarded a development grant. The development focuses on an unique saliva-based rapid test which detects simultaneously multiple STDs in one single test with immediate results.

With the rising prevalence rates of sexually transmitted diseases and overburdened health care systems, the deployment of fast, reliable and affordable testing methods are key to provide a part of the solution. Point-of-Care technologies such as MedMira’s RVF Technology® are highly suitable to be used in clinics, doctor’s offices or by end-users at home. The Johns Hopkins University Center for Point-of-Care Technologies Research for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (the Center) is seeking to facilitate the development of novel detection technologies for Point of Care Tests (POCT). The Center specifically focused on POCT for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The request for proposal was issued in early January 2022 for testing solution to combat the spread of STDs while focusing on methods that are usable in various settings and can be performed by anyone.

“While the competing proposals were strong, we were able to showcase that our RVF based Multiplo® is not only the fastest but also the most reliable solution for this project. The feedback received has been a clear indication that our technology and with it the reduced testing time and the increase in sensitivity has been the winning argument over other available systems. We are proud to have been awarded this grant and are able to work with such an esteemed organisation.” said Hermes Chan, CEO of MedMira Inc. ”This test is not only a great addition to our future product portfolio, it also provides recognition to the value of our RVF Technology and with it to all our products.”

Details of this project and its progress will be provided in the form of a press release as soon as available
